Sienna: Have you taken Adi on any trips?

Neilix: No, but Navi and her parents have. I’m still a homebody.

Neilix: Have you been anywhere?

Sienna: Sarah and I went to New York last year for a few days. That’s about it. I’m starting to think I’m a homebody, too.

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

Sienna

My best friend, Sarah, dumps all her bags from our shopping trip into the back seat of her car, smoothing a hand through her raven locks to push them over her shoulder. “I can’t believe you only ended up with two things after everything we tried on. And surprise, surprise, one was the sunflower dress.”

Once a month, I get an extra day off during the week. Sarah already had the day off, so we decided to come shopping in the city.

I slide my purse over my shoulder. “Well, if you’re serious about moving to the city, I want to have some money put aside for that.”

Sarah sighs dramatically, leaning against her car. “I guess you’re right. So why did we bring two cars instead of saving gas?”

“Because,” I say, squishing in beside her and bumping her hip, “I’m going to go see Jason after this, and you have a date.”

“Ah, yes,” she replies with a hum. But then, as if a thought just sprung to her mind, she leans forward and angles her head toward me, her hazel eyes scrutinizing my face before they widen excitedly. “Wait just a second. You’re going to go see Neilix, aren’t you?”

Sarah witnessed my crush for all those years, and subsequently, my heartbreak, so of course, I told her I went to see him the other week, and that we’ve been in contact since. With her best friend status, she’s been privy to some information—mostly after the fallout when I was angry and didn’t care—and part of that information was his full name.

I smack away her accusing finger pointed directly at my face and will the heat to stay off my cheeks. “That is not my plan.” But maybe a part of me was hoping that Jason would be busy, and then I’d message Neilix to see what he’s up to.

“You’re such a liar.” Sarah chuckles, shaking her head. “Call me after and let me know how it went.”

I push off her car, getting ready to hug her goodbye as she opens her driver’s door. “You really want to hear how my visit with Jason goes?”

Sarah huffs out a laugh as she wraps me in her arms. “No. I want to know if you finally have sex with a cute, glass-wearing man.” She quickly gets in and closes her door in my face before I can respond, then blows me a kiss. I roll my eyes at her, but she’s already driving off.

Sarah’s all for love, cheering on anybody and everybody getting together. It’s probably why she’s fallen in love more times than I can count and doesn’t seem to hold a grudge about anything.
